You don’t just have to believe us. Look at what our customers are saying. We pride ourselves on an excellent customer experience.

When is the best time to move?

The busiest times for moving companies are during the summer months, taking place roughly between May 15 – September 15. Near the ends of these months, the volume of shipments is extremely heavy—this tends to be the case for all professional relocation and moving companies. If there is a choice, most moving companies suggest you select a time other than summer, the end of the month or the end-of-year holidays. The heaviest demands are placed on trucks, equipment and personnel during these periods.

What is a binding estimate?

A binding estimate is an estimate for your move, based on the services and other information listed on the quote document.

Brinks Moving provides binding estimates to our customers. Once we commence loading your shipment, the amount of the bound estimate will be the amount you will pay for your move – no more or less – unless you ask for additional services or make changes to the conditions of your shipment and/or we reasonably believe it is necessary to provide additional services to safely complete your shipment.

What is a Bill of Lading?

Every mover is required to prepare a bill of lading for every shipment transported. The bill of lading is the receipt for your goods and the contract with your mover for their transportation. The driver who loads your shipment must give you a copy of the bill of lading.

Can I move jewelry and other valuables?

Items of extraordinary value such as jewelry, money, antiques, and stamp collections can be included in your shipment, provided that you notify your local moving representative of these items before packing and moving day. It is strongly recommended that you carry irreplaceable and expensive articles with you, or make alternate arrangements for their transport.
In the moving industry, items worth more than $100 per pound are considered to be articles of “extraordinary value.” To be assured that a claim involving these articles is not limited to minimal liability, complete and sign your mover’s high-value inventory form. Also, be sure to sign the “Extraordinary Value Article Declaration” box, if applicable, on your Bill of Lading.

What can’t we bring?

Packing perishable, dangerous or hazardous materials in your household goods without your mover’s knowledge is not a good idea. Seemingly innocent items such as nail polish remover, paint and automotive maintenance products can limit their liability if something goes wrong, so be sure you know which items are on the hazardous materials list. And if you choose to pack your own boxes and the articles get damaged, it may be more difficult to establish your claim against the mover for those boxes.

When will I be charged for my move?

Per federal regulations, all charges are required to be paid before your shipment is unloaded at destination. If you’re paying with a credit card, an authorization will be requested up to two days prior your scheduled load date

Can my possessions be stored temporarily?

If you are unable to take immediate possession of your new residence, your belongings can be stored in a local Brinks agent’s warehouse. Brinks agents throughout the country provide storage facilities for holding your goods until you’re ready for them. However, you are responsible for the storage charges, warehouse valuation coverage and final delivery charges from the warehouse.
If your goods are placed in storage, there will be an additional charge for the valuation coverage provided for your shipment, as mentioned previously. The type of coverage and cost be dependent upon whether the shipment is held in storage-in-transit (temporary) or in permanent (long-term) storage. Please ask your United agent for information regarding storage arrangements.

How do you pack fragile or high-value items?

Fragile items should be those defined by you to be breakable or high-value (such as dishes, glassware, artwork, fragile furniture, mirrors, etc.). Ensure that all the items in your home are packed by experts using the most up-to-date packing methods and materials in the industry.

What kind of liability coverage do you provide?

All interstate movers have to offer coverage (usually called “released value”) and it assumes liability for your personal property at a rate of $0.60 per pound. Keep in mind, though, when it comes to protecting your belongings, one size does not fit all. The level of protection you need may be greater than minimum levels based on your total shipment weight. Be sure to consider your high-value items in the determination of the protection coverage best suited for your belongings.

Can I move my pet(s)?

Pets cannot be carried in the moving truck. Dogs, cats, canaries and parakeets can usually be transported in the family car. If this isn’t convenient, your United agent will be glad to suggest alternate ways to ship your pets safely.
